Whether you just fancy a round or two, or you’re planning your next golfing holiday with friends, Kerry has some amazing courses for you to chose from.
With Killorglin right at the centre of the four most famous of these – Dooks, Killarney, Waterville and Ballybunion – it’s the perfect base for your next golfing getaway.
1. Dooks
Dooks Golf Club, founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland. It’s a true sea-side links course, beautifully situated at the mouth of the Lower Caragh and just 8km from Caragh Lake House. You can see the Atlantic roll in from practically every hole and the McGillycuddy Reeks overlook every shot.
2. Killarney
Four-time host to the Irish Open, Killarney Golf Club is absolutely spectacular. Set on the shore of Lough Leane just west of Killarney, the club boasts some spectacular views of the Lakes, National Park and Macgillycuddy Reeks. Well worth a visit and only 25 km from the house.
3. Waterville
Voted the 5th best golf club in the UK and Ireland, Waterville Golf Club, also founded in 1889, is an absolute must. A true links course and it is only 50 km from the house along the beautiful Ring of Kerry.
4. Ballybunion
Considered one of the finest links course in the world, Ballybunion Golf Club, founded in 1893 is a true gem. It has played host to the Irish Open and during his second term US President Bill Clinton played it in September 1998. 65 km from the house, it’s within easy reach and well worth the drive.
Fancy playing closer to home? There’s also Killorglin Golf Club, a 10 minute drive out towards Tralee, with panoramic views of the Dingle Bay and Slieve Mish mountains. Beaufort Golf Club, set in the beautiful Churchtown Estate at the foot of the Macgillycuddy Reeks, is also only 20 minutes.
In the evening you can then either dine in one of the many great restaurants in and around Killorglin or, if you prefer to eat at home, we can organise our in-house chef to prepare a meal for you and your friends back at the house. The perfect way to unwind after a great day on the course.
